When you may need a Queensland safety certificate
A Queensland safety certificate—often called a roadworthy certificate or RWC—is commonly required for registration transactions involving light vehicles. This includes many private vehicle transfers, transferring an interstate vehicle onto Queensland registration, and re-registering an unregistered vehicle.
Vehicles we inspect
Our QLD light-vehicle inspection service is intended for cars and light commercial vehicles up to and including 4.5 tonnes GVM, within the classes approved for our station.
What the certificate means
A safety certificate confirms that the inspected vehicle meets the minimum safety standards relevant to the inspection at the time it is checked. It is not a guarantee of future reliability and it does not replace a full mechanical or pre-purchase inspection.
Certificate validity
For most private sales, a Queensland safety certificate is current for 2 months or 2,000 km after issue, whichever comes first. Dealer certificates are generally current for 3 months or 1,000 km, whichever comes first.
Safety-critical items are assessed against Queensland standards.
Typical inspection areas include tyres and wheels, brakes, steering, suspension, vehicle body condition, windscreen and required lighting, together with other applicable inspection items.
